The Écomusée d’Alsace is an open-air museum that preserves, studies and showcases an exceptional collection of buildings and artefacts illustrating rural life in Alsace from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century. Comprising half-timbered houses, workshops and buildings that have been moved and reassembled, this architectural collection is complemented by everyday objects, furniture and tools linked to craft and agricultural activities.

Écomusée d’Alsace

As a Musée de France, the Écomusée d’Alsace carries out conservation, research and educational work, notably through the demonstration of traditional skills and techniques. Based in Ungersheim, it is also part of a contemporary approach to reflecting on the relationships between societies, territories and the environment.

Like many villages in Alsace, the Écomusée d’Alsace is home to white storks (Ciconia ciconia) from February through to August. The couples form at spring and settle on roofs in the museum’s 40 nests, which make it the biggest stork colony in the region!

The Écomusée d’Alsace is The largest open-air museum in France.
