{"id":63517,"date":"2019-04-04T08:08:55","date_gmt":"2019-04-04T08:08:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/designjaap.com\/?p=63517"},"modified":"2023-09-25T14:09:29","modified_gmt":"2023-09-25T14:09:29","slug":"photography-buildings-of-rotterdam-van-nelle-factory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/designjaap.com\/?p=63517","title":{"rendered":"photography buildings of Rotterdam: Van Nelle Factory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[April 4, 2019] Last month designJAAP has made architectonic photos of the former&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/designjaap.com\/?page_id=51151\">Van Nelle Factory&nbsp;<\/a>(Dutch:&nbsp;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/designjaap.com\/?page_id=51151\">Van Nelle Fabriek<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/designjaap.com\/?page_id=51151\">)<\/a> on the&nbsp;Schie&nbsp;in&nbsp;Rotterdam, is considered a prime example of the&nbsp;International<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Style_(architecture)\"> <\/a>Style&nbsp;based upon&nbsp;constructivist architecture. It has been a designated&nbsp;UNESCOWorld Heritage Site&nbsp;since 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/designjaap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nelle-fabriek-DSC_8284-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-63505\" srcset=\"https:\/\/designjaap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nelle-fabriek-DSC_8284-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/designjaap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nelle-fabriek-DSC_8284-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/designjaap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nelle-fabriek-DSC_8284-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/designjaap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nelle-fabriek-DSC_8284-1-83x55.jpg 83w, https:\/\/designjaap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nelle-fabriek-DSC_8284-1.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><a href=\"http:\/\/designjaap.com\/?page_id=51151\">Van Nelle Factory<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The buildings were designed by architect&nbsp;Leendert van der Vlugt&nbsp;from the Brinkman &amp; Van der Vlugt office in cooperation with&nbsp;civil engineer&nbsp;J.G. Wiebenga, at that time a specialist for constructions in&nbsp;reinforced concrete, and built between 1925 and 1931. It is an example of&nbsp;<em>Nieuwe Bouwen<\/em>,&nbsp;modern architecture&nbsp;in the Netherlands. It was commissioned by the co-owner of the Van Nelle company, Kees van der Leeuw, on behalf of the owners. Van der Leeuw and both company-directors, Matthijs de Bruyn and Bertus Sonneveld, were so impressed by the skills of Van der Vlugt they commissioned him to design and build private houses for themselves in Rotterdam and nearby Schiedam between 1928 and 1932.
