It remained in papal property until 1870, when, in the wake of the Risorgimento and the demise of the Papal<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Papal_States\"> <\/a>States, it became the property of the Kingdom<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italy\"> <\/a>of<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italy\"> <\/a>Italy.
